Beginning January 1, 2014, Horizon Healthcare Services, Inc. (Horizon) Medicare beneficiaries will receive pharmacy services through Prime Therapeutics LLC (Prime). Prime began providing pharmacy benefit management services to the plan's commercial members July 1, 2013. The two companies said that expanding their relationship will help drive additional savings in pharmacy costs and improve services and programs to Horizon's Medicare members.

"Horizon is committed to providing its members with efficient, quality services and the expansion of our contract with Prime will bring the same competitive prescription drug prices, top quality services, and focus on better health outcomes to our Medicare members," said Margaret M. Johnson, Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer, Horizon Healthcare Services, Inc.

Prime Therapeutics is a privately held pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) that is currently owned by 13 Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans.  It serves nearly 23 million members across the U.S. The company provides a full range of pharmacy benefit management services for participating plans.

Horizon's collaboration with Prime covers a range of pharmacy benefit services for Medicare beneficiaries including: mail-service pharmacy, retail, and specialty pharmacy, claims processing, benefit plan design, network management, clinical program consultation, rebate management, and formulary administration.

"The expansion of our relationship shows that Prime and its health plan clients have a winning combination in our unique pharmacy benefit management business model," said Eric Elliott, president and CEO of Prime Therapeutics. "We are pleased Horizon is putting its trust in Prime to make it easier for the seniors it serves to obtain affordable medicines."
