DEA Controlled Substance Act Registration Database now on-line

NewsGuard 100/100 Score

The Drug Enforcement Administration, as part of its efforts to control the abuse and misuse of controlled substances and chemicals used in producing some over-the-counter drugs, maintains databases of individuals registered to handle these substances.

These databases are available from the National Technical Information Service as monthly and quarterly subscriptions in a number of formats.

The databases are available in raw data format as downloadable files from the NTIS Web site. As soon as the files are received from the DEA, NTIS makes these available.

The downloadable files make the updating of the files timely since we no longer have to produce and mail a CD-ROM. The downloadable files also save you money as they can be automatically downloaded to save labor hours.

The files are also available as searchable online applications. You can perform a single search, have a single user make unlimited searches or, using our Web Services application, interlace your applications with ours.

The Official DEA Authorized Database The Controlled Substances Act (CSA) Registration Database consists of more than one million individuals registered under the Act, including registrants doing business under their individual names rather than a business name.

Registration under the Act enables physicians, related practitioners, other established health organizations, pharmaceutical companies, and others to prescribe and handle controlled substances.

The database is used to credential practitioners as well as to certify a practitioner's CSA status and is extremely useful to HMOs, clinics, health insurance, pharmaceutical, and medical services firms, and others who must verify that a practitioner is registered to handle controlled substances.

The DEA has stated: The products advertised on this Web site contain the complete official DEA database of persons and organizations certified to handle controlled substances under the Controlled Substances Act. DEA authorizes the use of this database, and the inclusion of any individual or organization in the database, as proof of that entity's registration with the DEA.
