Delphi Medical Systems Corporation, a subsidiary of Delphi Corporation, recently signed a licensing agreement with Switzerland-based medical device company Debiotech, S.A.

The licensing agreement includes rights to manufacture and market Debiotech's ambulatory intravenous (IV) pump, its associated disposables and accessories.

"We're excited about this product and the new customer relationship opportunities it represents for our company," said Christophe Sevrain, managing director of Delphi Medical Systems. "We are pleased to be entering into an agreement with a proven innovator like Debiotech, with an impressive track record of innovation in medical devices."

Miniature and accurate, the dual battery-operated and AC-powered portable pump is lightweight, and small enough to be hand-held, making it ideal for use in homecare and alternate sites.

The pump is designed to be easily clipped onto various accessories, such as IV poles and wheelchairs. It includes a shoulder strap and belt-clip for increased mobility, and could play an important role in hospitals, where it could be utilized for mobile in-patient care.

"We are delighted to enter into a close collaboration with one of the leading technology companies in the world, which has already contributed to some of the most significant developments in the automotive industry," said President and CEO of Debiotech, Frederic Neftel. "This alliance adds tremendous potential to the medical device industry and we are extremely pleased to work toward novel therapeutic solutions in the infusion business together with Delphi Medical Systems."

Having already received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and in compliance with the European Norm, CE, the patented pump and intravenous set will strategically add to Delphi Medical Systems' product and technology portfolio.

"Delphi Medical Systems is focused on being a provider of technology and manufacturing in the areas of dialysis, respiratory care, mobility, and infusion, of which this electronic pump is a key element," Sevrain said. "We anticipate announcing strategic alliances with medical equipment manufacturers and distributors to further develop Delphi Medical Systems' presence in the medical device market."

Capable of providing up-to-date technologies in circuit electronics, sensors, user-interface, wireless technologies, and more to address challenges in a global market, Delphi Medical Systems will provide components and complete medical instrumentation to medical equipment manufacturers and distributors.

Debiotech S.A., specializes in the research and development of innovative medical devices in the field of drug delivery systems, electronic infusion systems, dialysis, diagnostics and imaging devices, implantable drug delivery systems and micro-systems for insulin and peptide drug delivery.
