Informatics Corporation of America (ICA) today announced that it has formed a strategic OEM partnership with Mark Logic® Corporation to enhance its interactive clinical portal with quality reporting capabilities provided by the industry’s leading XML Server, MarkLogic Server. Commercially available in December 2009, these new quality and analytics reporting capabilities will raise the profile of the ICA CareAlign™ product suite as a national model for leveraging patient data to improve population-based care. This partnership will support the meaningful use of the ICA Electronic Health Record (EHR) solution and advance population health management techniques for hospitals and integrated delivery networks, which include Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), regional health information organizations (RHIOs), and other statewide initiatives.

“This OEM partnership with a category leader like Mark Logic enables our existing and prospective customers to utilize innovative infrastructure technologies to access complete information for care delivery, streamline reporting, and support broader state-level programs for care management, disease management, clinical trials, and others,” says Jeff Cunningham, ICA’s chief technology and strategy officer. “This significant announcement comes on the heels of our recently announced agreement with Companion Data Services, providers of data center hosting in a technically focused environment. Collectively, these corporate alignments and merging of powerful tools enable ICA to expand its breadth of claims and clinical data.”

CareAlign™ emerges as a leading solution because it leverages cutting-edge standards-based technologies such as MarkLogic Server to reliably and efficiently integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources and drive rapid implementation.

Cunningham explains, “As a result of this partnership, ICA expands its ability to enrich, search, navigate, analyze, and dynamically deliver aggregated healthcare content across patient populations. This is a key differentiator for ICA, and of critical importance to our customers who will be able to take data from any source or format and make the information more usable in combination with the Mark Logic platform.”

Mark Logic, a leading provider of software for information-centric applications, provides an industry-leading XML Server that helps organizations rapidly build and deploy information-centric applications. To help unlock the value of information, MarkLogic Server combines the capabilities of a database management system for storing content with an advanced query and search engine for accessing it coupled with a dynamic application server to deliver it. As a key component of information infrastructures, MarkLogic Server empowers organizations with the functionality and flexibility needed to adapt quickly to changing market conditions and new product requirements.

Max Schireson, chief operating officer for Mark Logic, states, “This relationship serves as an example of how healthcare information can be managed to control costs and help drive optimal patient care. The combination of ICA’s data aggregation capabilities and MarkLogic Server will allow users to filter and search across ICA’s full set of aggregated data. This functionality will help identify specific medical conditions, determining corresponding treatment patterns and providing a foundation to improve healthcare reporting.”
