The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) has created a new award to recognize healthcare CEOs and administrators that support infection prevention and control efforts throughout their facilities. The new APIC Healthcare Administrator Award will honor a member of a healthcare facility’s executive team (CEO, COO, CFO, CMO, CNO) who has demonstrated significant and sustained support of the organization’s infection prevention team.

APIC will honor the winner of the first annual Healthcare Administrator Award at a ceremony during International Infection Prevention Week, October 16, 2009.

The deadline for nominations is September 18, 2009. APIC’s Nominating and Awards Committee invites nominations at this time.

The candidate must be a member of the healthcare organization’s executive team who has made infection prevention an organizational priority, supported programs to target zero healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and reduced the transmission of one or more HAIs within their facility. “With this award, APIC will celebrate the pivotal role that top executives play in establishing an organizational culture that enables and supports infection prevention,” said APIC 2009 President Christine J. Nutty, RN, MSN, CIC. “We hope this annual event encourages more leadership support and collaboration between healthcare administrators and infection preventionists.”
