Five members of Congress visiting Africa this week said on Thursday that Zimbabwe's unity government can bring "hope to the people of the impoverished African country," RTTNews reports. The delegation, which is the largest to visit Zimbabwe in a decade, concluded its two-day visit "after holding talks with the country's political leadership, including President Robert Mugabe, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Parliament Speaker Lovemore Moyo," RTTNews writes (9/3).
Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) said the unity government had a "reasonable prospect of delivering benefits to the Zimbabwean people," according to the Associated Press, which also writes that the delegation "is calling on the country's leaders to ensure the success of the unity government" (9/3).
