Angioedema is characterized by episodes of intense localized edema involving the skin, visceral organs, and airway, causing discomfort and even death as a result of airway obstruction. There are a number of therapies available for the prevention and treatment of angioedema, and new therapies are being studied to further minimize the effect of acute attacks on this patient population.
To address the need for current education on angioedema, Robert Michael Educational Institute LLC (RMEI) and Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM) are jointly sponsoring a complimentary continuing education newsletter series titled New Directions in Angioedema. The third issue of this three-part newsletter series has just been released and is titled New Directions in Angioedema: A Focus on Supportive Care and Treatment Options. This activity is supported by an educational grant from ViroPharma Incorporated.
Timothy J. Craig, DO, from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and Aleena Banerji, MD from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, serve as the Editorial Board for this newsletter series.
