The Board of Directors at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers voted to proceed with the completion of the Campus Transformation Project. Little Company of Mary obtained the Certificate of Need (CON) last spring, making it the boldest construction project since the Sisters opened the original hospital in the midst of the Great Depression - 80 years ago this January. It will create the Southwest Chicago area's first all-private room, private bath acute care hospital that includes a beautiful new Women's Center for Life and Health.
The West Pavilion tower will be constructed immediately west of the existing Tower Building, and will house 96 private rooms for medical and surgical service patients. Once the West Pavilion is completed, all Little Company of Mary patients will enjoy the comfort of private rooms with private baths. In addition, the Transformation will incorporate the area's first comprehensive women's health center - the Women's Center for Life and Health.
Little Company of Mary expects to break ground in fall 2010. Little Company of Mary will immediately begin by tackling a few site preparation projects necessary prior to breaking ground, such as utility relocations and the removal of the generator building. The Hospital recently completed the expansion of its West Parking Lot, doubling in size through the addition of 215 new spaces.
"We are eager to continue transforming our campus and provide an enhanced patient experience for Chicago's southwest community," states Project Leader Kevin Rehder, Vice President of Clinical Services.
The five-year Campus Transformation Project is anticipated to cost between $150 million and $175 million. Little Company of Mary plans to fund the Project through the assistance of the community with a the Values, Vision and Innovation Capital Campaign whose goal is in excess of $12 million, as well as borrowed funds and internal resources.
