For the third consecutive year, Go Daddy is the title sponsor of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) Walk to Cure Diabetes. The JDRF walk is this Saturday at Tempe Town Lake.
“Juvenile diabetes affects more than three million people in this country – it’s a serious problem that needs attention,” said Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons. “Our employees are passionate and like to make a difference. This walk is a great way to help the cause.”
The JDRF walk is the largest family-friendly event in Arizona with more than 20,000 walkers raising money for and awareness of Type 1 diabetes. The money raised goes directly to research of the disease and improving the lives of Type 1 sufferers.
SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth estimates 15,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes every year. This number shows incidents are increasing and aid is desperately needed to combat this disease.
“JDRF was ecstatic to have Go Daddy come back as our title sponsor for the third year in a row,” said Executive Director & CEO of JDRF Desert Southwest Region Becky Johnson. “The enthusiasm and drive their employees display while helping us work toward a cure is unbeatable. We can’t wait to see what Go Daddy has planned for walk day this year.”
Go Daddy and its employees have raised more than $450,000 for the cause during its three-year sponsorship. In 2008, more than 750 members of the Go Daddy Corporate Team broke the chapter’s all-time record for largest single corporate team. Go Daddy hopes to be 1,000 strong this year.
During a time when many companies are scaling back their donations, Go Daddy stepped up and donated nearly $2 million to organizations this year and more than $1.7 million in 2008. Go Daddy has supported causes including underprivileged children, domestic violence victims, injured veterans, animal shelters and homeless teenagers.
