PIMCO Foundation awards grants to 30 US charities and community organizations

The PIMCO Foundation, the charitable arm of the Newport Beach-based money management firm PIMCO, today announced it has awarded $549,375 in 2009 grants to 30 US charities and community organizations.

"PIMCO is committed to community involvement and supporting excellent programs that reflect our values," said Mohamed El-Erian, President of The PIMCO Foundation. "The PIMCO Foundation is very pleased to be providing these outstanding organizations with grants to help them improve the quality of life in our communities around the world."

With over 200 applicants, grants ranged between $5,000 and $25,000. The 2009 grants were awarded across multiple priority areas. The 2009 grant recipients are:

Children: $ 100,000 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County CASA of Orange County Orange County Food Bank The Painted Turtle Project Dignity Project HOPE School Foundation Disability: $ 30,000 Fresh Start Surgical Gifts Helping our Mentally Ill Experience Success Special Olympics Orange County Education: $ 94,375 College Bound - Dollars for Achievers Hispanic Scholarship Fund Olive Crest Treatment Centers Saint Joseph Ballet (now The Wooden Floor) St. Margaret's Episcopal School - Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano Global Microlending and Microfinance: $ 50,000 Freedom from Hunger Pro Mujer Ocean Conservation: $35,000 Inside the Outdoors Foundation San Diego Coastkeeper Senior Citizen: $ 80,000 Costa Mesa Senior Center Council on Aging - Orange County Irvine Adult Day Health Services Latino Health Access Women's: $ 135,000 Breast Cancer Solutions Laura's House Lestonnac Free Clinic Maternal Outreach Management System (MOMS) Toby's House Venice Family Clinic Other programs: $25,000 Someone Cares Soup Kitchen Women Helping Women

The PIMCO Foundation also announced that their window for accepting 2010 grant applications will open on May 17th and will close on July 15th, 2010. The PIMCO Foundation accepts grants nationally for US-based nonprofit organizations. Grant applications for 2010 will be available in April of 2010 at www.pimco.com.
