The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape presented awards to five community members or organizations Friday at its annual board meeting in State College.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett received the Community Partners Award; Metro Bank received the Corporate Giving Program; Deborah Shivetts received the Lifetime Achievement Award; Leslie Slingsby received the Anne Pride Award and Julie Evans received the Jody Pinto Award.

Attorney General Tom Corbett received the Community Partners Award for his work leading the state's law enforcement efforts to reduce the number of sexual assaults and prosecution of those who do commit sexual violence.

"Attorney General Corbett recognized that sexual predators were using the Internet as a means of contracting and communicating with young victims," said PCAR Executive Director Delilah Rumburg. "He knew it was critical for law enforcement to stay one step ahead. By creating the Child Predator Unit, he did just that."

Under Attorney General Corbett's leadership, the Child Predator Unit has arrested more than 200 individuals who have attempted to solicit minors online.

"The attorneys, investigators and dedicated staff from the Office of Attorney General work vigorously every day to make Pennsylvania a better and safer place for all of our residents," Attorney General Corbett said. "The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape shares this same goal, and I count it as an honor to be recognized by them as a partner in their mission to prevent sexual violence."

PCAR also presented Metro Bank with its Corporate Partner Award for their work with PCAR's Vision of Hope project.

"Metro Bank has displayed a strong commitment to our Vision of Hope campaign and the anti-sexual violence movement," Rumburg said. "Through financial support of more that $10,000 since 2005 and countless volunteer hours, they have helped to make our Vision of Hope campaign a success."

Metro Bank fills between 500 and 1,000 donation requests annually to local nonprofits. The bank places special emphasis on activities, events and programs for children, families and educational causes.
