Imagine a corporate annual meeting that seeks solely to personally enlighten and transform the people attending. That is exactly what takes place at EPIC, Aegis Living's annual meeting under the vision of Chairman and CEO Dwayne Clark. As a national leader in retirement, assisted living, and memory care communities, Aegis Living is in the business of taking care of society's "Greatest Generation." Dwayne fundamentally believes that in order to take care of others, you must first take care of yourself and that starts with EPIC.

"At EPIC, we don't spend time discussing our business, instead we turn the meeting around to focus on our staff. Through a combination of outstanding speakers and team building exercises we make the three-day event all about them and how they can better fulfill themselves. This year we had six speakers including Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and Dr. Patch Adams who changed lives with their own stories and perspectives," said Clark.

The 100 people who attend EPIC are responsible for taking the message back to the remaining 1900+ Aegis employees who can't participate. The meeting is raw, emotional and spiritual.

"Whether it is identifying the power of saying thank you, learning how to challenge myself and others to accomplish at a level far higher than ever imagined, encouraging those around me to envision their dreams and go after them or simply looking at what I want to accomplish in life and how I can begin accomplishing it, each year EPIC challenges me to get out of the normal day to day busyness of life and look at things with a different set of lenses," adds Terry Ervin, regional vice president for Aegis Living.

Clark feels privileged to have the opportunity to give something meaningful and truly out of the ordinary to his devoted staff.  In return the employees at Aegis have helped make it one of America's best senior living companies. By successfully creating an environment where employees know they are cared for, Aegis Living has earned the distinction of having the lowest staff turnover rate in the industry and a reputation as one of the great companies to work for.

Clark knows his meeting champions the company's mission and culture. He wants more companies to take this soulful approach to honoring its employees and seeks to spread this idea so more companies will devote themselves to helping their employees.
