Food labels can help in making heart-healthy food choices

February is American Heart Month -- and a good time to make simple changes in your diet to reduce your risk for heart disease.

The food label found on most foods and health claims found on some foods can help you make healthy food choices.

"The food label gives people the power to compare foods quickly and easily so they can judge which products best fit into a heart-healthy diet or meet other dietary needs," says Barbara Schneeman, Ph.D., director of FDA's Office of Nutrition, Labeling and Dietary Supplements.
