American Society of Breast Surgeons adopts ASO as official journal beginning in 2010

The Annals of Surgical Oncology (ASO), the official journal of the Society of Surgical Oncology, has announced an additional society affiliation with the American Society of Breast Surgeons beginning in 2010. Published by Springer, the ASO is a leading monthly publication that features original articles on the latest advances in oncology for surgeons from all specialties.

Dr. William Curtis, Executive Vice President for Clinical Medicine Publishing at Springer, said, "Springer is pleased to support the mission of the Society of Surgical Oncology through this exciting new partnership with the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Not only will the Annals of Surgical Oncology reach an important community of physicians, the journal will provide a high-value forum for the publication of the organization's research."

Dr. Arthur G. Lerner, Executive Vice President of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, said, "The American Society of Breast Surgeons welcomes the affiliation with the Annals of Surgical Oncology, ensuring the publication and dissemination of our organization's content in the highest ranked journal in the field of surgical oncology."

The Annals of Surgical Oncology is published at Springer electronically and in print. The journal includes Online First-, Cross Reference Linking, and Alert services. All authors, via the Springer Open Choice- program, have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model. Dr. Charles M. Balch of Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions is the editor-in-chief.

Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, President of the Society of Surgical Oncology, emphasized the positive impact this arrangement has for the specialty of surgical oncology as a whole. "The Society of Surgical Oncology and the ASO have strategized to be the scientific and educational resource for all surgeons who treat cancer patients, regardless of geographic location or scope of practice. Having two important societies use the Annals of Surgical Oncology as their official journal establishes a partnership that benefits the entire surgical community and our patients."
