The Patriot-News: "A statewide partnership has been awarded a $100 million grant in federal economic stimulus funds to expand access to broadband Internet in 39 counties across south and central Pennsylvania, U.S. Senators Arlen Specter and Robert P. Casey said Thursday." One purpose of the network is to link medical facilities (Miller, 2/18).
The (Kaneland, Ill.) Chronicle: A two-year, $7.5-million "federal grant will allow Northern Illinois University to take the lead in improving medical technology in Illinois, school officials said Thursday." The stimulus funding is for creating a so-called Regional Extension Center to "help doctors throughout the state adopt digital health information records that can be shared quickly and securely" (Schott, 2/18).
