CMS awards Jurisdiction 15 Medicare Parts A and B Administrative Contract to CGS

CIGNA Government Services, L.L.C. (CGS) announced that it has been awarded the Jurisdiction 15 Medicare Parts A and B Administrative Contract (J15 A/B MAC) by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The contract includes administration and the processing and paying of Medicare physician and hospital claims for the states of Kentucky and Ohio as well as home health and hospice claim processing services for the states of Colorado, Delaware, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming and the District of Columbia.

The combined service area includes over 2.5 million Medicare beneficiaries, health care professionals and hospitals. Medicare Part A is for hospitalization coverage and Medicare Part B is for physician and other services provided outside the hospital. The estimated value of the new Jurisdiction 15 A/B MAC contract is $243 million. The Medicare Part A work will be subcontracted to Riverbend Government Benefit Administrators, LLC (RGBA). The contract, consisting of a one year base period with four (4) one-year optional periods, took effect on July 8, 2010.

In making the announcement, Jean Rush, president of CGS said, "CGS is committed to providing consistent and efficient Medicare claims administration services through our valued partnership with CMS."

CGS has provided services to Medicare since 1966. In June 2007, CGS was awarded the largest of four durable medical equipment contracts to provide claims processing, customer service and administrative services to over 55,000 durable medical equipment, prosthetics, and orthotics suppliers in 17 states and territories. CGS also holds federal Medicare Part B contracts for North Carolina and Idaho.
