The Highmark Partners for a Healthy Community will offer free health, vision and dental screenings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7 at Family First Health in York. The event is open to children and adults who are uninsured or have minimal coverage.

Davis Vision and United Concordia Dental will partner with Highmark to provide free screenings and services, including:

  • Vision
  • Dental
  • Glucose
  • Cholesterol
  • Blood pressure
  • Rapid HIV

"Although children and adults often go without screenings and exams during challenging times, preventive and corrective care measures are important to their overall health," said Charles Gladney, Highmark's director of community programs. "This tough economic climate will, hopefully, prompt many children and families to take advantage of the free services we will be providing."

Since many families do not have insurance or have limited funding for care, health care professionals will volunteer their time at the event to ensure participants receive the care they may need.

"For the past eight years, we've been helping promote dental health awareness in the communities we serve," said Woodrow Greene, community outreach coordinator for United Concordia Dental. "By partnering with Highmark, Davis Vision and Family First Health, we are providing children and adults with minimal or no insurance an opportunity to have a number of their health and dental needs addressed."

Services will be provided at Family First Health, 116 South George St. in York.
