South Florida physician, author, and weight-loss expert Sanford Siegal, D.O., M.D., has published a unique cookbook that enables anyone who follows almost any calorie-controlled weight-loss or weight-maintenance diet to combine 120 recipes into a nearly unlimited number of calorie-specific meals. The Cookie Doctor Cookbook: Countless Combinations of Delicious Meals for Any Calorie-Controlled Lifestyle (2011, Egg & Dart/Dynamic Housewares, ISBN 978-0-9841887-6-5) is available at Amazon.com and will soon arrive at bookstores everywhere.

"In the many years that I've been in practice, the most common question I've been asked by my patients and people who've approached me in public, is 'What should I eat in order to reach or maintain a healthful weight?'" said Dr. Siegal. "This cookbook answers that question by providing recipes that can be combined to support any lifestyle."

Since 1960, Dr. Siegal's Miami-based medical practice, Siegal Medical Group, has treated over 500,000 overweight patients. The doctor has achieved notoriety over the past 35 years for books on such topics as high fiber diets, controlling hunger without drugs, hypothyroidism, and the popular Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet (www.CookieDiet.com) weight-loss system.

Dr. Siegal is often referred to by the media as "The Cookie Doctor" because of his well-known weight-loss system and his latest product, CalciOs, a 37-calorie cookie that provides 90% of the Daily Value of calcium per serving and relieves heartburn.

"For the past couple of years, I've spent a lot of time doing media interviews about the Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet, so having something else to talk about now is a welcome change," noted Dr. Siegal. "While The Cookie Doctor Cookbook will be useful to those who follow my diet, it's really for everyone who wishes to reach or maintain a healthful weight by controlling their caloric intake, regardless of the diet plan they follow."

Dr. Siegal said his new book was inspired by the myriad inquiries he's received over the years from those who wanted advice on what meals are suitable for one who wishes to reach or maintain a certain weight. He says that most people recognize that controlling calories is essential for success but find it difficult to know how many calories they're meals really contain.

"The Cookie Doctor Cookbook includes salads, appetizers, side dishes, entrees, and even desserts, and is divided into 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 calorie recipes. This enables the reader to combine two or more dishes to create meals with a specific number of calories," added Dr. Siegal. "Each recipe indicates the amount of calories, protein, fat, carbohydrate, and fiber, and includes a full-page color photograph of the prepared dish."
