IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: IPCM), a leading national hospitalist physician group practice company, announced today that it has acquired the hospitalist practice of Hospitalists of West Michigan, PC (HOWM) headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The acquisition represents a further expansion in the Michigan market, where IPC already has a well-established presence. HOWM has an annualized volume of approximately 45,000 patient encounters.

R. Jeffrey Taylor, President and COO of IPC, commented, "HOWM is our second acquisition in Michigan this year. This practice group has built strong relationships with the primary care physicians in the Grand Rapids market, and this is a core value for IPC. As a company, we remain focused on working closely with outpatient physicians and specialists in all of the markets we serve."

Khan Nedd M.D., owner of HOWM, said, "We look forward to benefitting from the hospitalist practice management tools that IPC makes available to its providers.  By joining forces with IPC, our practice group is able to continue to build our reputation with referral sources by providing the highest quality of care for their hospitalized patients."
