Ontario's doctors congratulate inaugural class of PAs at McMaster University

NewsGuard 100/100 Score

Ontario's doctors wish to congratulate the inaugural class of Physician Assistants (PAs) at McMaster University who are celebrating at their convocation today.  We commend the Ontario government for investing in the PA program as an effective way to improve patient access to timely and comprehensive health care.

Currently there are more than 80 PAs working with physicians in hospitals, community health centres, Family Health Teams and with community physicians. PAs are trained to deal with everyday health care needs, as well as medical emergencies and work under the supervision of a physician. By working closely with physicians, PAs are making a positive impact on Ontario's health care system by improving wait times and enhancing access to health services.

Ontario's doctors are long time supporters of PAs, first introduced in Ontario in May 2006. PAs are valuable contributors to our health care system because Ontario's doctors know that when all health care providers work together, patients benefit from an enhanced level of care.
