Elsevier, the leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced that the 9th Pangborn Sensory Science Symposium (http://www.pangborn2011.com/ ) has been confirmed, taking place in Kyoto, Japan on 4-8 September 2011.

With the last symposium attracting 1000 delegates, Pangborn is the most prestigious conference within the field of sensory science and is the only meeting that allows sensory science practitioners to discover, discuss and develop the latest in fundamental and applied sensory science.

For the first time the Pangborn Symposium will engage directly with the field of sensory science in Asia. For this purpose we have chosen the ancient and beautiful city of Kyoto famed for its historic temples, exquisite gardens and glimpses into the traditional Japanese way of life.

The Scientific Committee composed of acknowledged opinion leaders in sensory science from across the spectrum of research areas will work alongside organizers from Elsevier to develop a multidisciplinary programme, covering areas such as fundamentals of sensory perception, consumer research, sensometrics, sensory analysis and quality assurance.

"The Pangborn Sensory Science Symposia consistently provide researchers with a marvelous opportunity to share knowledge and network with their peers," said Lyndon Driscoll, Elsevier Executive Publisher. "We look forward to bringing the event to Kyoto in 2011."

Among the topics covered at the 9th Pangborn Sensory Science Symposium are:

- Fundamentals of sensory perception - Effective use of sensory analysis / quality assurance - Multi-modal sensory analysis and integration across modalities - Sensometrics - New methods for consumer research - Food choice and consumer behaviour - Cross-cultural sensory and consumer research - Sensory and consumer research of personal and home-care products - Sensory properties for health and wellness - Sensory perception and human behaviour in children and the elderly - Advances in sensory methodology - Sensory science and challenging products Attendees are welcome to register at http://www.pangborn2011.com
