Birmingham Institute performs non-invasive skin tightening procedure

With the increasing demand for non-surgical aesthetic procedures, the FDA's recent clearance of an ultrasound device to tighten sagging skin has come as great news to consumers, especially those in Southeast Michigan, home to one of the first of these Ulthera™ Systems in the nation.

“We now have the ability to use ultrasound imaging to SEE the layers of tissue we want to treat below the surface of the skin, and then focus the same ultrasound energy to TREAT just the targeted tissue”

While drawing on the same ultrasound principles that physicians and patients have trusted for decades, the Ulthera System is a first-of-its-kind technology because it utilizes ultrasound energy on the face and neck to lift and tighten the skin in a short, 60-minute procedure.

This non-invasive procedure, called Ultherapy™, has been available in Europe and Asia since early 2009, but Dr. William J. Vasileff of the Birmingham Institute of Plastic Surgery is among the first physicians in the U.S. to adopt the technology.

"We now have the ability to use ultrasound imaging to SEE the layers of tissue we want to treat below the surface of the skin, and then focus the same ultrasound energy to TREAT just the targeted tissue," says Dr. Vasileff. "Because this is accomplished without disrupting the top layer of skin, patients experience minimal risk and no downtime."

The treatment triggers the body's own regenerative response, which results in a firming, tightening and lifting of skin tissue over time. Dr. Vasileff explains, "While it's not a replacement for a surgical face or eye lift, patients like that the process is non-invasive. Once they understand that the results rely on rebuilding the supportive collagen within the skin, they also appreciate that the effects take place naturally and gradually."

Dr. Vasileff is hosting an Open House to introduce Ultherapy from 6-8 p.m. on December 2 at the TruVista Surgery Center in Troy. Visit www.drvasileff.com for more information, or call 248.644.0670.

Men and women seeking cosmetic surgery in Michigan trust Dr. Vasileff. He is a double board-certified plastic surgeon who founded the Birmingham Institute of Plastic Surgery nearly 30 years ago. The practice is located at 525 Southfield Road, at Brown Street, in Birmingham.
