CRS report details regs issued since passage of health overhaul

The Congressional Research Service issued a new report examining the processes followed in the development of the new rules put in place since the passage of the health overhaul. Meanwhile, the omnibus spending bill now moving through Congress includes funds for Medicare and Medicaid fraud prevention.

Federal regulators have adopted at least 18 new rules since passage of the health care reform law eight and a half months ago, according to the Congressional Research Service, most of the time without giving the public much chance to comment ahead of time (Pecquet, 12/14).

Among the highlights of the draft of the Senate omnibus fiscal 2011 spending bill is a $750 million increase for biomedical research at the National Institutes of Health, a $160 million spending hike in the fight against fraud and abuse in Medicare and Medicaid and an increase of $224 million to expand health training programs (Bunis, 12/14).
