Caliper Life Sciences, Inc. today announced that it has developed and optimized automation protocols on its Sciclone® NGS Workstation for Illumina's TruSeq™ DNA and TruSeq RNA sample preparation kits.

In addition to the automation protocols for TruSeq kits, Caliper has also developed automation protocols for Illumina's standard library preparation kits, as well as for Agilent's SureSelect™ Target Enrichment kits, Nimblegen's SeqCap™ EZ Human Exome Library v2.0, and ABI's SOLiD™ Sequencing Chemistry. Caliper also recently announced a collaboration with NuGEN to automate its Ovation® and Encore™ reagent solutions.

"Caliper has responded to our customers' requests for automated solutions to mitigate the bottlenecks in sample preparation for next generation sequencing that resulted from the significant capacity of the HiSeq™ 2000 and SOLiD 5500 platforms," said Kevin Hrusovsky, President and CEO of Caliper Life Sciences. "The Sciclone NGS Workstation is an open platform that was designed in collaboration with our external partners to accommodate the rapidly changing protocol requirements of the NGS market, including modifications for single molecule sequencing workflows. The availability of these automated protocols underscores Caliper's substantial commitment to the attractive NGS market and complements the other solutions for NGS workflows provided by Caliper's microfluidic LabChip® products."

Caliper has also developed automated protocols for its Sciclone® NGS Workstation for PCR setup, sample normalization, library barcoding, nucleic acid extraction, microarray sample preparation and other molecular biology techniques that are required for high throughput genomics applications. Many of these methods are also available on Caliper's Zephyr® Genomics Workstation.

Data from these optimized protocols will be presented in numerous customer presentations and posters at the 2011 AGBT conference, taking place from February 2-5 in Marco Island, Florida. Customers that are showcasing Caliper's sample preparation solutions at the AGBT meeting include scientists from University of Miami, Washington University in St. Louis, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, and the University of Washington. Additionally, Caliper scientists will be presenting posters and presentations describing Caliper's suite of workflow solutions.
