GNAX demonstrates new Free Health Information Exchange at HIMSS11

Global Net Access (GNAX), a leading healthcare technology infrastructure service provider unveils a new Free Health Information Exchange (HIE) today at the 2011 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition. The GNAX HIE facilitates the direct electronic exchange of patient information between healthcare providers. GNAX will be demonstrating the HIE in its booth 4086 during exhibition hours as well as in the VMware theatre, booth 4079 at 4:00 PM on Monday, February 21^st.

As a nationwide HIE service offered at no cost to all healthcare providers, the GNAX HIE is one of the first solutions of its kind. It is an intuitive web-based system accessed via any Internet browser.

"To keep it usable and accessible, especially for providers in rural areas, meant we had to make it web-based with no EMR requirement," commented Jeff Hinkle, GNAX President and Chief Operating Officer.

Providers can login and request information from any other provider. The receiver is notified of the request and then can then login and upload the documents requested. The requester sees that the records are available and then retrieves them with a couple mouse clicks. The whole process can take just a few minutes.

The GNAX HIE is fully HIPAA compliant. All patient and provider data is encrypted at rest and through the HIE portal. All exchanges occur within this secure environment. "In much the same way a bank communicates with its customers, only simple notifications are sent outside the system," explained Janakan Rajendran, GNAX Senior Director of Product Development. An NPI database is included to make provider look-up simple. However, GNAX manually confirms the identity of and verifies that each person requesting to use the system is a licensed healthcare provider.

In developing the HIE, GNAX sought input from stakeholders across all domains, including consumers, physicians, health information technology professionals, provider organizations and education institutions, with significant input from Emory Healthcare, Piedmont Healthcare and Children's Hospital of Atlanta in particular.
