Logicworks, Orion partner to provide highest standard of security for organizations using HIE SaaS model

Orion Health, Inc., global leaders in Health Information Exchange (HIE) solutions, announces today its partnership with Logicworks, a leading provider of high availability and private cloud hosting solutions, to provide the highest standard of security for organizations using the Orion Health Health Information Exchange SaaS model. The partnership allows Orion Health to offer HIEs the maximum security of patient data and ensure efficient operational progress using Logicworks' solution, which will help them to achieve cost effective patient outcomes.

Alaska eHealth Network (AeHN), the State of Alaska's official health information exchange management entity, is using the Orion Health HIE SaaS with Logicworks' hosting solution, to establish a statewide electronic superhighway for securely moving health care information and connecting health care providers across the state for safe, secure, and less expensive health care services. Logicworks' platform enables Orion Health-hosted HIE customers' data to be completely isolated between organizations, ensuring privacy and dramatically reducing the risk of security breaches. Organizations are also able to customize applications and manage their individual performance without impact from others.

Bill Sorrells, Executive Director at AeHN says, "The combination of Logicworks and Orion Health's technology in an HIE, will help provide us with a highly secure, fully-compliant architecture with no capital expenditure and relieves us of the need to hire additional staff to manage and support. The HIE will also provide a platform for elastic computing to support our needs now and our growth going forward."

HIE providers must anticipate increasingly high volumes of patient information and high-resolution medical images as hospitals and physicians join the data exchange and begin to populate the system.

As more participants enter data into the system, privacy and security measures scale up to rapidly meet the demand.

"As healthcare organizations begin migrating data into the cloud, HIPAA compliance remains a key, yet expensive, prerequisite in their IT delivery strategy," said Kenneth Ziegler, president & COO of Logicworks. "Our managed hosting and security solutions provide Orion Health with a fully compliant and highly elastic platform for their Health Information Exchange SaaS offering."

Logicworks provides SAS 70 Type II certified security and hosting services. Developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), SAS 70 examines a service organization's in-depth audit of its control objectives and control activities. Logicworks' SAS 70 audit included all controls and procedures as they relate to high-availability hosting, data backup and restoration, disaster recovery, security, and storage.

Paul Viskovich, Orion Health President of North America says this means customers can achieve the same security standards that are used at the U.S. Department of Defense. "One of the top concerns we hear from healthcare providers is the need to protect patient privacy. Orion Health has long been known for its ability to support security and privacy protocols that meet the most stringent organization's needs. Logicworks provides a level of confidence that we can continue to provide our customers and set the standard for HIEs."
