London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has received threats from individuals in both the United States and Canada as a result of the case of "Baby Joseph" Maraachli.
"The threats are being taken seriously and have come by email and phone and have been passed along to the police. The health and safety of our patients, our staff and our physicians are our top priority," says LHSC CEO Bonnie Adamson.
LHSC will not be revealing the exact nature of the threats, the details of its increased security measures nor the identities of any individuals against whom the threats have been directed.
"We have urged our staff and physicians to report to us any concerns they have. We are working closely with police in London and elsewhere and have taken the necessary steps to protect our staff and physicians and ensure that the highest quality care at LHSC continues without interruption in a safe and secure environment," adds Adamson.
Baby Joseph has been in the care of LHSC since October 2010 and has a severe and progressively deteriorating neurological condition.
