Medication non-adherence is as dangerous and costly as many diseases, causing up to 125,000 deaths annually in the U.S. Non-adherence, the failure to take drugs on time in the dosages prescribed, has been described as the world's "other drug problem."

Non-adherence is due to a number of factors including patient demographics, medication expense, polypharmacy, side effects, and the physician-patient relationship. While many of the factors that discourage compliance may be difficult to control, the doctor-patient relationship is one that can be enhanced. Mobile technology is a powerful solution being used in the healthcare industry to strengthen relationships by engaging patients with their physicians.

San Francisco-based digital healthcare agency Eveo (www.eveo.com), the leader in Pharma mobile marketing, is driving the effort to develop mobile solutions that encourage adherence. Eveo currently boasts 40 apps under development within its dedicated mobile division, Ev2. Many of the apps are mobile patient relationship management (MPRM) platforms developed with smart and convenient management tools that simplify and encourage patient adherence.

The Eveo MPRM platform has been built from the ground up to meet the needs of patients, physicians and marketers and can be fully integrated with existing RM programs. Developed for major pharmaceutical companies, it works across a multitude of brands and can be deployed globally and localized in languages. Key components of the apps include:

1) Disease management - provides patients with useful tools, information and resources, as well as educational information and access to communities and forums. Also included are disease management trackers that can generate reports that can be emailed to physicians.

2) Treatment trackers - provides patients with customizable treatment trackers, medication reminders via email and SMS notification, information about side effects, and answers to frequently asked questions.

3) Lifestyle focused- designed to better promote healthy living, focused around health improvements through games, tips, diet, exercise planning, etc.

At the Patient Adherence Summit in Philadelphia, March 7 - 8, Founder and CEO of Eveo, Olivier Zitoun, will present strategies and best practices on how Pharma marketers are using mobile solutions to deepen patient-physician interactions and increase compliance.

"Mobile technology is a innovative and cost-effective way to improve physician-patient relationships, bridging distance and convenience barriers that may impede their communication, and result in improved adherence and ultimately better patient care," said Zitoun.

The Summit, to be held at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, will focus on developing targeted programs, robust marketing campaigns, and lasting stakeholder partnerships to improve adherence.
