Cantor warns that health law will lead to care rationing

The House Majority Leader expressed this concern while speaking to the College of American Pathologists.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said Tuesday that private health care plans ration care for profit but that consumers should be free to buy whatever coverage they can afford rather than depend on government rationing. In remarks to the College of American Pathologists, Cantor warned that Democrats' health care reform law mandates benefits that are too generous and will bankrupt the country as the government ends up having to offer ever increasing subsidies. That can only lead to government rationing, he said (Pecquet, 5/3).

Attacking the ACA during a talk Tuesday to the annual policy meeting of the College of American Pathologists in Washington, he said, "Government and its board, its so-called IPAB board, will be in the position to make decisions about which care, which therapy, which treatment, which medicine is available — a.k.a. rationing" (Feder, 5/3).
