How much did you know about soybeans? How did you find the difference between GM soybeans and non-GM soybeans? How can people find the 'New Market' for traditional non-GM soybeans? You may get the answer if you knew 'Shan Song'.

Soybean is one of the most traditional plants that specializes in high nutritional soya-oil at reasonable price. Nowadays Soybean oil occupies more than 80% market share in cooking oil market. There is strong competition between genetically modified soybeans and non-genetically modified soybeans on the market.

There are two steps in the conventional operations in processing of soybeans: Firstly, soybean oil is obtained by crushing soybeans, followed by processing the rest of the soybean meals into feedstuffs and fertilizers. Because of the high cost of non-GM soybeans, producing soybeans into finished products in the traditional way would lead business to a loss. The reason of importing GM soybeans is that it yields well, oil produce is rather high and its price would be much lower compared with that of Non-GM soybeans. GM soybeans have a strong occupation on the oil market. Therefore genetically modified soybeans are a strong competitor of non-genetically modified soybeans in oil manufacture industry in Chinese domestic market.

Due to the increasing cost in international soybean market, the 'old' processing method resulted in '"Shan Song' suffering the same loss as other competitors. Where is the 'New Way' of the soybean? Finally through the constant exploration and research, 'Shan Song' found the answer. At the beginning, 'Linyi Shansong Biological Products Ltd. Co., China' was forced only to develop its downstream products. 'Shan Song' owns a large-scale cultivation with over fifty acres of non-genetically modified soybean base. In November 2006, 'Shan Song' received a certification on 'non-GM status by maintaining (IP)'. The company is different from other soybean processors. Firstly, semi-finished squeezing soybean oil can be gained through the traditional method, then the soybean can be purified and the protein which is isolated can be used for its own purposes. After the first press to produce soybean oil, the plant is devoted to soybean meal, bean water and other by-products' deep processing, making waste into treasure.

The advantage of non-genetically modified soybean is that the amount of protein is quite large. It is processed more deeply and sophisticatedly, which result in better absorbing. By exploring an alternative approach and through research, 'Shan Song' has found a new way of processing non-genetically modified soybeans. First, 'Shan Song' will refine the soybean to semi-finished soya-bean, then refine the soybean part and separate the protein. After that, the soy peptide which can enhance immunity and the sugar that can assist in curing diabetes will be acquired through biological process. However, they haven't finished in researching. In the past, they added soybean oligosaccharide which is abundant in bifidus factor and is able to improve bowel function into so called waste water soy whey. Besides adding the additional value of soybean, it can extend the industry chain for domestic soybean and open new markets as well.

'Shan Song' reprocesses its rough finished products into eight sorts of new products. The same amount of soybeans, which are processed through 'Shan Song's' process method was able to make maximum value. 'Shan Song' became the enterprise which owned the longest chain of soybean intensive processing businesses in the world. 'Shan Song' is China's largest soy protein isolate, soy flour and soy oligosaccharide peptide manufacturers as well.

In general, food gets into the body digestive organs, including protein and DNA, which will be broken down into amino acids and nucleotides, and are absorbed by the body. While eating genetically modified food, if the DNA inside the food cannot be completely broken down by the body digestive organs, these DNA fragments will be embedded directly into the body cells and DNA of human cells, which are equivalent to the implementation of genetically modified human cells. Its harm is difficult to measure. (For more information about GM foods, please visit: http://www.responsibletechnology.org/) Concerning that, 'the 'Moscow Food Security Act' prohibited the city budget for the production and purchase of food containing genetically modified ingredients, and prohibited the use of funds for such loans. The Russian government forces manufacturers to paste 'GM' labels on the genetically modified foods to take restrictive measures for customers on GM food purchasing. The government of Moscow city interdicts stores to sell food containing genetically modified ingredients to young people who are under 16 years old. Genetically modified food is not allowed to enter hospitals and nursery schools' cafeterias yet. The army and navy are prohibited to take genetically modified foods either.

It is not unique, during China's international trading, almost all foreign companies, especially the downstream customers from Europe, America and Japan required that 'protein powder' must use non-genetically modified soybean as raw material. According to the 'China Soybean Industry Association report', Chinese exportation of soy protein and its range of products in international trade have occupied a strong share. In a related survey data, there are about 2500 kinds of foods of the United States which need the adding of soy protein. Soy protein consumed in Japan would reach 60 million tons each year as well. According to the China Soybean Industry Association, the market share of Chinese non-GMO soybean products in the European market increase by 10% annually. Even Cargill from United States which is the giant in the field of soybean trading and processing still prefers Chinese non-GMO soybeans. One can imagine that China's natural soybean market would be promising. Soybean, as a major source of vegetable protein is acclaimed with its high nutritional value. With the growing demand for healthy diet, soy protein is a good choice for all as it would not make people concerned about fat and the risk of heart disease. Relative to animal protein in many adverse effects on people's health, soy protein is more widely used in people's daily diet. Non-GM soybean is green, easily absorbed and filled with the characteristics of the modern definition of healthy living. The innovation of soybean research for human health of 'Shan Song' Ltd. Co. is a benchmark of the contribution on human health.
