A leading expert on sleep and insomnia is giving a free public lecture in Birmingham on Wednesday 30 November 2011.

Clinical Psychologist Professor Colin Espie, Director of the University of Glasgow, will be speaking on "Wake Up to Sleep:  The importance of sleep to our health and well-being" at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham City Centre, at 6 p.m. Anyone may attend, but you are asked to register your intention to come with the British Psychological Society: http://www.bps.org.uk/sharingourscience.

Professor Espie says:

"Sleep is not an accident of a lifestyle choice: it is an bio-imperative whether you are a plant, a fish, an insect or a mammal like us. It is crucial to our physical health and delivers the capacity to live your life. If you cannot sleep then you cannot function. We take it for granted - until it goes away."

The lecture takes place on the eve of the annual conference of the British Psychological Society's Division of Clinical Psychology. This event takes place at the Holiday Inn on 1 and 2 December 2011, with around 250 clinical psychologists due to attend.
