For the 35 million people worldwide that suffer from Onychomycosis (nail fungus), a new, fast, effective approach to treatment is now available.  Alma Lasers, Inc., a leader in laser, light, radiofrequency and ultrasound aesthetic and medical devices, is pleased to announce the introduction of its newest innovation for the Harmony(XL) multi-application, multi-technology platform, a novel approach for the treatment of nail fungus.  This new application, which has just gained its approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, is an exciting new aesthetic laser protocol that allows for not one but two distinct laser technologies to treat the appearance of nail fungus from the inside out.

Typically treatment of onychomycosis is challenging because the infection is embedded within the nail and is difficult to reach.  But Alma Lasers' innovative Q Switched 1064nm Nd:YAG laser with its KTP 532-nm tip creates micro-cavitations and acoustic shock waves on the surface of the nail plate which then get transmitted to the nail bed, causing mechanical damage in the irradiated fungal colony which may decapsulate the fungus spores.

In addition, the embarrassing yellow and brown streaks that cover the nail are eliminated thanks to the green light of the Q-Switched KTP 532-nm, which is well absorbed by red and brown pigments of the infected nail microorganism.  The Nd:YAG 1064nm laser module causes non-specific heat conduction on the entire nail, thermally deactivating the unwanted microorganism.  Physicians can utilize these two modules with their existing Alma Lasers' multi-application, multi-technology Harmony(XL) platform adding an enhanced level of efficacy for their patients.

"At Alma Lasers, we're committed to delivering the most advanced, efficacious aesthetic and medical solutions that add to clinical outcomes, promote positive patient experience and maximize return on investment for our customers," said Avi Farbstein, General Manager of the North American Operation. "This unique protocol adds another dimension to the Harmony(XL) platform making this not only a cost effective addition to their practice but also a much needed solution for this wide spread skin condition."
