As the only CT system with a detector wide enough to capture the entire heart in a single rotation, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc.'s Aquilion™ ONE dynamic volume CT system, combined with Vital Images' CT Myocardial Analysis software, provides clinicians with images of both cardiac anatomy and function for cardiac ischemia diagnoses. Toshiba is highlighting the Aquilion ONE and CT Myocardial Analysis at this year's American College of Cardiology (ACC) annual meeting in Chicago, March 24-27, 2012 (Booth #6026).
“Aquilion ONE and its 16 cm of coverage is the only system capable of producing whole heart perfusion images that have the ability to change the way cardiac ischemia is diagnosed.”
Toshiba's Aquilion ONE and CT Myocardial Analysis can be used to visualize coronary anatomy and pathology and to assess the presence of hypo- or hyper-dense areas of myocardial tissue. Physicians can use CT Myocardial Analysis to perform a detailed analysis of the myocardium, looking for areas of increased or decreased attenuation.
Dr. Michael Poon, professor, Radiology and Medicine, and director, Advanced Cardiac Imaging, Stony Brook School of Medicine, has conducted clinical research with CT Myocardial Analysis and found that adding functional perfusion imaging to coronary CTA creates a "one-two punch" in helping clinicians determine cardiac lesion treatment.
"Toshiba designed the Aquilion ONE to improve diagnostic confidence and lower radiation dose for clinical applications like cardiac CTA," said Tim Nicholson, senior manager, Market Development, CT Business Unit, Toshiba. "Aquilion ONE and its 16 cm of coverage is the only system capable of producing whole heart perfusion images that have the ability to change the way cardiac ischemia is diagnosed."
