Sonic Foundry, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOFO), the trusted market leader for lecture capture, enterprise and event webcasting, is pleased to announce that several medical schools across the country recently used the Mediasite webcasting platform to live stream Match Day programs, emotional ceremonies which reveal residency appointments of senior medical students nationwide.

Match Day, through the National Resident Matching Program, is the culmination of four challenging years of medical school. During the national event that occurs every March, the students learn where they will begin their careers after graduation. Following their commencements the new physicians will begin training in their chosen specialties at teaching hospitals.

This year friends and family were able to share in that moment with the students via live Mediasite webcasts. Morehouse School of Medicine, University of Florida College of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine streamed their Match Day ceremonies live via Mediasite, and the videos are also archived for viewing on-demand. For Ahamefula Nnodim of Morehouse School of Medicine who was matched at Beaumont Health System in Michigan, that means his family and friends who couldn't make the ceremony can still watch his speech and see the moment when his future was announced.

"I made it. It seems like it was just yesterday that we were in that 24-hour room pulling all-nighters for exams," he said to his classmates during the ceremony. "This has been a journey and I am blessed to have had this journey with such an amazing group of people at such an amazing place. To my special guests, special friends and friends who may not have made it here or might be watching the streaming, thank you for your support."

According to American Medical News, the 2012 resident match rate of 95 percent was the highest in 30 years. Nationwide, 22,934 applicants were assigned first-year residency positions this year.

"We congratulate the senior medical students across the country that were placed into residency programs during this year's Match Day," said Gary Weis, CEO of Sonic Foundry. "We're proud that through our partnership with these universities, Mediasite was able to play a role in bringing parents, friends and the general public to campus through the power of live streaming, allowing them to  share in the excitement and applaud their success."

Trusted by more than 1,000 colleges and universities, the patented Mediasite webcasting and video content management system quickly and cost-effectively automates the capture, management, delivery and search of live and on-demand streaming videos and rich media presentations that combine video with slides.
