Domain Surgical, Inc., a leading developer of advanced thermal surgical technology, today announced that it has released a line of stout surgical tips for its FMwand Ferromagnetic Surgical System. As with all FMwand tools, the stout surgical tips simultaneously cut and coagulate tissue without passing electrical current into the patient, making them safe to use near delicate tissue structures.

The new FMwand stout surgical tips, each with a robust wire core, were designed specifically to enable surgeons to quickly and aggressively dissect thick tissue, such as large muscles in the back. The new stout surgical tips are available in either straight or curved shapes.

"Many surgeons have expressed the need for a hemostatic dissecting tool capable of cutting through extremely thick tissue," said David McNally, President and CEO of Domain Surgical. "The new stout surgical tips combine rigid construction with the fast, advanced cutting and coagulation characteristics of the FMwand. This combination of strength and speed can be especially important in spine surgeries, where surgeons often encounter thick tissue. This tool is the latest of many planned additions to the FMwand surgical system."

Domain Surgical's FMwand product line is based upon patent-pending thermal surgical technology, whereby a surgical implement can be rapidly heated to consistently deliver pure thermal energy to cut and coagulate soft tissue. When the heated implement contacts tissue, it imparts a thermal effect on the surface of the tissue that has a very low depth of penetration compared to most other surgical energy modalities. This results in superior cutting and coagulation, with little risk of unintentional injury to adjacent or deep tissue.
