IEEE, the world's largest technical professional organization, announced that the latest issue of IBM Journal of Research and Development, a special issue on Technologies for Healthcare Transformation, is now exclusively available in the IEEE Xplore® digital library.
Technologies for Healthcare Transformation examines how the healthcare industry is working toward developing centralized databases and advanced analytics to help foster clinical understanding based on aggregated medical data. This special issue presents state-of-the art applications of advanced analytics, visualizations, and medical records that over time will improve the quality of health care and reduce cost, while also addressing challenges associated with managing and analyzing medical data, both visually and mathematically.
Issues addressed in Technologies for Healthcare Transformation include the need for a data infrastructure and software platform that can provide policy makers, administrators, healthcare practitioners, and healthcare researchers with a more complete and coherent view of the health status for a population. One article also argues that physicians often do not have the appropriate tools to sort through the large amounts of data available and extract relevant clinical information in a timely manner.
Papers include "An infrastructure for real-time population health assessment and monitoring," "Multifaceted visual analytics for healthcare applications," and "A comparison of decision-maker perspectives for optimal cholesterol treatment."
