SAMHSA to unveil results of 2011 National Survey on Drug Use and Health

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) will unveil the results of the latest (2011) National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) at a press conference on Monday, September 24, 2012. The annual survey is the largest of its kind and is the government's primary vehicle for determining how many persons are using illegal drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, as well as how many are misusing pharmaceuticals.

The release of SAMHSA's 2011 NSDUH survey findings kicks off the 23rd annual National Recovery Month observance, celebrating individuals throughout the country who have achieved long-term recovery from mental and substance use disorders and recognizing the contributions of the dedicated men and women providing treatment and recovery services. Recovery Month aims to educate the public that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, that treatment for substance use and mental health disorders is effective, and that people can and do recover.
