Children's Center of Wayne County hosts annual Power of Possibilities Breakfast fundraiser

The Children's Center of Wayne County hosted its ninth annual Power of Possibilities Breakfast fundraiser, themed "Children Are the Heroes!" More than 500 community and business leaders gathered at Detroit's Westin Book Cadillac for the event presented by Ford Motor Company. Event proceeds exceeded $390,000 including a $90,000 challenge match from Lisa & Bill Ford , along with the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation.

"The children and families we serve are courageous, resilient and empowered. They face the challenges of mental and behavioral health issues every day; many also experience the trauma of poverty, abuse and neglect. The generosity of Power of Possibilities guests enables us to provide the programs and services that aren't covered by Medicaid and other reimbursements," said Debora Matthews, President & CEO of The Children's Center.

More than 7,500 children and families residing in Greater Detroit receive services from The Children's Center annually. The organization has specialized in providing quality mental and behavioral health services for children and families for nearly 85 years. In recent months they've expanded their service approach to address the needs of the "whole child" by adding pediatric, dental and prescription services through partnerships on their Midtown Detroit campus. Additionally they provide early childhood education to nearly three hundred 3 – 4 year old children through a Head Start Academy located in Northwest Detroit.

"We couldn't be more grateful for the generosity and leadership shown by not only our sponsors and Unity Challenge supporters Lisa & Bill Ford , and the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation, but also our breakfast guests.  The event inspired unprecedented giving from our community," said Tammy Zonker , Chief Philanthropy Officer.
