DataMotion (www.datamotion.com), an innovative health information service provider (HISP) with more than 14 years of experience in secure data delivery, today announced that Medflow, Inc., the leading provider of electronic health records (EHRs) for ophthalmology, has selected its DataMotion Direct secure messaging service. Shortly after the selection, Medflow achieved 2014 ONC-ACB certification using DataMotion Direct secure messaging as "relied upon software."

Medflow's ophthalmic practices were the first to receive Meaningful Use payments, and the addition of Direct secure messaging is a natural extension of the company's leadership in standards compliance. Medflow will use DataMotion Direct to enable the secure exchange of protected health information (PHI) among its member base of more than 550 practices and 2,800 eye care physicians nationwide.

Medflow provides EHR software to the eye care community that enables fully integrated workflows for exchanging health information between physicians, technicians, receptionists and billing departments. Medflow EHR is optimized to provide physicians with the fastest and most efficient access to clinical data, including providing direct communication between diagnostic devices and the EHR systems, which reduces human error and allows easy access to data from any location. The solution also helps organizations eliminate fax, paper, and save time.

Following an extensive review of HISPs, Medflow selected DataMotion Direct because of its ease of integration and universal interoperability with standards compliant systems. DataMotion Direct is designed specifically to enable the secure and compliant transfer of PHI for healthcare providers, patients and business associates, supporting a variety of data types such as summary of care documents and large imaging files.

"Medflow needed a Direct secure messaging solution that would meet our high standards for efficiency and security," said Jim Riggi, president and CEO of Medflow. "Within hours of our initial inquiry, DataMotion provided us with intuitive developer tools that made it extremely easy to integrate DataMotion Direct into our existing systems. From there, we successfully completed the implementation and certification testing.

Medflow is using DataMotion Direct to advance the mission of the Direct Project, which is to implement common standards for the interoperable sharing of electronic information in the healthcare industry.

"We share a vision with Medflow to advance healthcare through standards-based secure sharing of electronic information," said Hugh Gilenson, director of business development, healthcare at DataMotion. "Medflow has set an example for meeting Meaningful Use requirements. Now, we're demonstrating how the industry can immediately and easily communicate more securely and effectively. This ultimately will improve patient care, healthcare provider services and operations, while fulfilling the vision of the Direct Project and paving the way for a community that will grow stronger as others adopt this approach."
