Sunshine State Health Plan (Sunshine Health) announced today that it has received approval from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to participate as a Qualified Health Plan in the Florida Health Insurance Marketplace in three South Florida counties, where it will offer a line of products branded as Ambetter from Sunshine Health.

With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, health insurance marketplaces, or health exchanges, will offer consumers a place to shop, compare and select an affordable health plan.

Consumers can start shopping during the initial Open Enrollment period beginning October 1, 2013, and going through March 31, 2014, and can compare Ambetter products and locate scheduled informational sessions in Broward, Dade and Palm Beach counties on our www.ambetterhealth.com site.

"Participating in Florida's health insurance marketplace is a natural progression to expand upon the affordable health solutions Sunshine Health offers to low-income individuals in Florida today," said Chris Paterson, president and CEO of Sunshine Health. "Our marketplace offerings will be under the product name Ambetter, a name that exemplifies our commitment to providing access to quality, integrated healthcare for individuals that can help transform the communities in which they live, work and raise families."

Sunshine Health provides healthcare services to Medicaid, Healthy Kids, Long Term Care and Medicare D-SNP members in Florida. The health plan currently serves more than 216,000 members across the state. Florida also recently announced their recommendation to award Sunshine Health the Managed Medical Assistance contract in Regions 3 through 11, which encompasses 49 counties from South Florida to the Georgia border.
