Cigna (NYSE:CI) welcomed over 100 new customer service employees at a ribbon-cutting opening the company's new health care call center in North Fayette, as service associates at the new call center began taking customer calls. Fifty more customer service personnel will be hired by year-end.
"Cigna focuses on meeting the needs of individuals and providing around the clock customer service as a competitive differentiator," said Julia Huggins, Cigna president for Pennsylvania. "Cigna's investment in the Pittsburgh region stems from a great pool of talent who are well-suited to meet the needs of our customers and from our commitment to being part of a healthy and competitive marketplace in the region."
Cigna already has major operations in Pittsburgh, which has grown to approximately 1,500 employees locally working in the company's new call center and also in its health coaching and case management center and in the Cigna disability insurance unit. The new jobs in Pittsburgh result from growth in the number of Cigna's medical plan customers both nationally and in western Pennsylvania. Customer service associates located in Pittsburgh will work to assist customers from many different states.
In addition to its operations in Pittsburgh, Cigna also has a historic presence in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that includes nearly 4,000 employees and stretches across the state; including the historic headquarters of the Life Insurance Company of North America in Philadelphia and its claims operations center in Scranton.
Cigna is committed to diversity and offers an array of employee benefits to employees including health, dental and disability insurance. Its employees are active in the community, which most recently included Pittsburgh's inaugural Achilles International Hope & Possibility Race bringing together more than 300 volunteers and athletes with disabilities. Cigna has also been a national title sponsor of the March of Dimes. More than 650 Cigna employees signed up to participate in the upcoming Pittsburgh walk and Run for Babies 5K.
In 2009, Cigna became the first health service company to provide its customers with live 24/7/365 access to its customer service representatives for medical, dental and pharmacy plan customers and contracted health care professionals.
