SCSM and Phreesia partner to speed up patients’ check-in process

NewsGuard 100/100 Score

SC Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center (SCSM) has implemented Phreesia, the nation's leading healthcare point-of-service provider, to stay on the cutting edge of patient care, improve the patient experience and maximize collections. Through a range of digital applications, including electronic form management, flexible payment options, automatically administered clinical assessments and a range of patient communication applications, Phreesia helps SCSM staff shift attention away from time-consuming manual work, and focus instead on providing exceptional patient care. In addition, Phreesia integrates with the practice's system of record, athenahealth, to streamline administrative tasks and reduce errors by eliminating the need for paperwork and manual data entry.

"The check-in experience is time consuming and it can be frustrating to our patients, setting a negative tone for their office visit. The PhreesiaPad lets patients check in quicker, and it automatically administers and uploads the necessary consent and HIPAA forms so that they can get to their provider appointment sooner," says Dawson Cherry, SCSM Practice Manager. Phreesia was recently ranked No. 1 category leader in self-service patient check-in, according to KLAS's "2013 Best in KLAS: Software and Services" report. Similar to Consumer Reports, KLAS is an independent, third-party research organization that monitors vendor performance by surveying and interviewing over 2,500 healthcare providers each month. Scores represent customers' perspective of specific vendors and solutions, as well as vendors' standing in the industry relative to competitors.

Phreesia is used by over 10,000 physicians in more than 52 medical specialties in every state. Similar to self-service technology used in other industries, including airports, banks and grocery stores, Phreesia's electronic platform digitizes the check-in process by replacing the paper clipboard with the wireless, touchscreen PhreesiaPad. Patients update their personal information and sign any required consent forms directly on the PhreesiaPad. Phreesia verifies their insurance and automatically asks them to pay their copayment and any outstanding balance from the privacy and comfort of their seat in the waiting room. Through its state-of-the-art integration with athenahealth, updated demographic and clinical information, in addition to signed consent forms, are automatically exported into athenahealth, saving staff significant time, ensuring accuracy of patient data and increasing collections.
