EMR Direct, a Health Information Service Provider (HISP) and leading developer of Direct messaging software for the secure exchange of Protected Health Information (PHI) over the Internet, announced today that its phiMail Server software has achieved Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC-HIT) 2014 Edition Modular Certification via Drummond Group LLC, an Authorized Certification Body (ACB). The phiMail Server software powers EMR Direct's HISP service, chosen by over 80 Electronic Health Record (EHR) vendors to provide integrated Direct messaging for their products and to connect their customers with over 40,000 health care organizations and 760,000 Direct addresses nationwide.
"Certifying our HISP software under the ONC-HIT program signals our continued commitment to simplifying interoperability," says Julie Maas, CEO of EMR Direct. "We are often approached by EHR vendors who have certified their own products using another Direct implementation or have tried working with other HISPs, but have only achieved limited interoperability for their customers. These companies are looking for a smooth, reliable and affordable HISP experience. By using the phiMail easy-integration API to connect with EMR Direct, interoperability is seamlessly within reach for any EHR system or health application requiring it."
"Release 2 of ONC's 2014 Edition certification criteria decouples clinical content from secure transport," says Julie. "This fits well with our model of letting our partners focus on content while we manage encryption, digital certificates, and transport for Direct. The modular certification of our HISP software now provides another HISP service option to EHR vendors and their customers, in most cases without the need for another Direct messaging certification or recertification."
EMR Direct's software was tested by Drummond Group to be in accordance with applicable standards and certification criteria put forth by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). EMR Direct is also triple-accredited as a HISP, Certification Authority, and Registration Authority by DirectTrust and EHNAC, an independent confirmation of compliance with HIPAA and with best practices relating to security policies, identity services, and digital certificate issuance and management.
