CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center to serve as host platform for launch of new general surgery residency program

CarePoint Health, a fully integrated healthcare system that provides quality, patient-focused healthcare to Hudson County, is pleased to announce that CarePoint Health-Bayonne Medical Center will serve as the host platform for the launching of a new general surgery residency program, under the leadership of the system's Chief Academic Officer and leader of its educational programs, Dr. Maurizio Miglietta. As of July 1st, the general surgery residency program has recruited six residents, with Dr. Thomas Simpson serving as the residency program director. The general surgery residents will be assisting on teaching service cases and covering on-call shifts throughout CarePoint Health System.

"This new educational initiative emphasizes our goal to foster physicians' professional development as skilled, ethical, and compassionate clinicians, capable of meeting the challenges of a changing healthcare environment and assuring high quality patient care in our communities," said CarePoint Health System Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Nizar Kifaieh. "We are hopeful that these programs will help promote a strong educational environment across our clinical network and look forward to training the region's next generation of physicians and surgeons."

In July 2016, CarePoint Health plans to expand existing programs as needed and introduce additional residency programs covering additional areas of clinical care. CarePoint Health's accredited education programs will appoint the most qualified applicants, recruit and retain outstanding faculty and offer comprehensive educational programs, while maintaining a balance between training, service and research to support the professional development and personal growth of each resident and fellow.
