Seventeen distinguished members of ASTRO selected to receive Fellows designation

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has selected 17 distinguished members to receive the ASTRO Fellows designation. The 2015 class of Fellows will receive the recognition at the Awards Ceremony at ASTRO's 57th Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 20 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

ASTRO Fellows designation, or FASTRO, honors those that have been an Active or Emeritus member of ASTRO for at least 15 years, given the equivalent of 10 years of service to ASTRO and significantly added to the field of radiation oncology in the areas of research, education, patient care or service and leadership. Including the 2015 class of Fellows, 259 ASTRO members have received the FASTRO designation since the inception of the award in 2006.

To be considered for the designation, candidates must be nominated by a current ASTRO Fellow, accompanied by three letters of support from a selected subset of ASTRO members, which includes past or present members of ASTRO's Board of Directors, ASTRO Gold Medalists, ASTRO Fellows and former or current academic radiation oncology department chairs. A nine-member Fellows Selection Committee reviews all nominations and presents a slate of recommended Fellows to ASTRO's Board of Directors for final approval.
