UT Physicians, the medical practice of McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), has opened its newest health center, UT Physicians Community Health & Wellness Center - Rosenberg, at 5115 Avenue H, Suite 701.

UT Physicians Community Health and Wellness Center - Rosenberg offers high-quality primary care and mental health care for children and adults, as well as other wellness services such as exercise classes. Members of the community also have access to a demonstration kitchen, which will focus on providing education on healthier eating habits.

"We hope to positively impact the overall health and well-being of adults and children in the area," said Kevin O. Hwang, M.D., M.P.H., associate professor of medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and medical director of UT Physicians' Community Health & Wellness Centers. "Of course, partnering with existing community organizations will be crucial because health is affected by so many factors outside of traditional medical care. We have a multidisciplinary team of dedicated individuals and we're excited to get started."

The 8,800-square-foot clinic, equipped with 12 exam rooms, accepts walk-ins and appointments. With the help of geo-mapping and a needs assessment, the clinic has been placed in an area identified as medically underserved. Members of the staff are bilingual in Spanish.

"We're combining what you would find in a community center with a medical facility," said Yen-Chi L. Le, Ph.D., project manager for the clinic. "It is a newer model of prevention and care."

The clinic is connected with the entire UT Physicians medical practice to offer patients a quick and seamless turnaround when referred by their primary care doctor to a specialist.
