Sony to display latest end-to-end medical visual solutions at MEDICA 2016

Sony will be attending MEDICA 2016 from November 14^th to 17^th to showcase its latest end-to-end solutions that support more efficient diagnosis, surgery and post-operative care. MEDICA visitors will be able to experience how Sony’s innovations enable more efficient capture, sharing and display of high-quality video and still images in today’s networked hospital environment.

Smart Digital Operating Room workflow with NUCLeUS™

Bringing Sony’s end-to-end range of medical solutions to life, the MEDICA stand will include two interconnected Surgical Workflow areas. Showcasing a new generation of smart workflow solutions for the Integrated Operating Room, we  will demonstrate how clinicians can capture, share and display images recorded during surgery across the hospital network in Full HD and 4K.

The Operating Room (OR) setup will be powered by NUCLeUS™, Sony’s new Video-over-IP platform, which delivers full IP communication. Enabled by the new NU-IP40S or NU-IP40D IP converters, the platform improves the surgical workflow through OR planning integration, pre-sets per surgeon and instant collaboration. Outside the OR, staff can view live surgical content and have access to an online video-on-demand platform so they can view the content they need, whenever they need it.

Enhanced visualisation for better decisions

As part of Sony’s commitment to deliver enhanced visualisation, it will be showcasing its latest surgical monitors at the show. The new LMD-X550MT (55”) and LMD-X310MT (31”) surgical monitors combine 4K and 3D for the first time, delivering high brightness, enhanced resolution and increased depth of field to help surgeons make more informed decisions and improve training. They’ll be joined by the new LMD-2735MD (27”) and LMD-2435MD (24”) Full HD monitors that offer superior image quality at an accessible price, designed for use with endoscopic camera systems during minimally invasive surgical procedures.

Delivering compelling images on any scale, Sony’s revolutionary CLEDIS™ Display solution will also be on show. The large-scale presentation solution combines multiple energy-efficient display modules to create flexible, super-sized displays for use in operating rooms, training suites or reception areas.

The award-winning CLEDIS technology delivers impressively life-like images with a wide colour range, vivid brightness and contrast with a virtually 180 degree viewing angle.

Easy recording, quick sharing

Also on display for the first time in Europe, the HVO-3300MT is Sony’s latest 3D/2D HD video recorder. Smaller and lighter than the previous-generation HVO-1000MD and HVO-3000MT video recorders, it records images from 3D/2D endoscopic camera systems or surgical microscopes onto its high-capacity internal hard drive. Video can be stored simultaneously on up to two external media devices, including Blu-ray, DVD, USB memory or a hospital server for easy sharing, vital for improved collaboration in hospital environments. It’s also more user-friendly, with a built-in 3,5 inch (8,9 cm) LCD colour display for controlling input sources or reviewing images, and enhanced functions like two-channel recording to simultaneously capture images from a connected endoscope and an OR camera. The HVO-3300MT follows the launch of Sony´s first 4K surgical recorder, the HVO-4000MT, earlier this year, which works in tandem with Sony´s Content Management System to provide a complete 4K solution for medical professionals.

Wireless printing for streamlined diagnostics

Newly released at the show will be the space-saving UP-D898DC thermal printer. Ideal for use with digital ultrasound systems, it delivers high-quality black & white A6 prints in less than two seconds for quick diagnostics, and operates on a DC power source for convenient integration into a medical cart. The UPA-WU10* wireless printing system will also be on display, allowing cable-free connection between compatible Sony medical printers and surgical endoscopes, ultrasound systems and other imaging modalities. Replacing a conventional wired USB connection, it's ideal for busy clinical environments where modalities are constantly being moved between different OR and treatment rooms.
