University of Florence professor awarded ESCEO-IOF Servier Pierre D. Delmas Prize

Award presented in Rome to honour researcher's work in cellular and molecular endocrinology as related to bone and mineral metabolism

Today, at the opening of the European Congress on Osteoporosis & Osteoarthritis in Rome, Italy, Professor Maria Luisa Brandi MD, Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at the University of Florence, Florence, Italy was presented with ESCEO-IOF Servier Pierre D. Delmas Prize.

The prestigious award, valued at -40,000, is granted by the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO) and the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) with the support of Servier.

"This award honours an individual who has made outstanding and major scientific contributions to the study of bone and mineral diseases. We are delighted to present the award to Professor Brandi, one of the most distinguished researchers in the field," said ESCEO President Professor Jean-Yves Reginster.

The award is named after the late Pierre Delmas, the renowned researcher and founding IOF President who was Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at the University of Lyon, France and Director of the INSERM research unit 'Pathophysiology of Osteoporosis'.

IOF President John A. Kanis commented, "Professor Brandi has made essential contributions to research in clinical and basic bone and mineral metabolism, endocrine tumors, genetics, and in rare skeletal diseases. She has also worked to benefit osteoporosis advocacy in Italy and worldwide in her role as President of F.I.R.M.O. and as an active member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation."
