Study recommends hospital to install antibacterial keyboards in triage, registration areas

A recent study conducted at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit revealed that the computer keyboards with the highest level of germs were found in the triage and registration areas of the hospital's emergency department. These high-traffic areas create a source of some of the deadliest viruses - such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) -- reinforcing demand for products developed by UNOTRON, creator of hermetically sealed, dishwasher-safe, medical-grade washable computer keyboards, scroll wheel mice, and smartcard readers.

“The study recommended that the hospital install washable rubber or antibacterial keyboards in the triage and registration areas. However, while rubber keyboards are easy to sterilize, they are difficult to type on and in medical situations that can lead to dangerous mistakes.”

"This study demonstrates that it's just as important to stop germs in non-treatment settings as in treatment settings," says Joseph H. Carabello, director of Unotron. "The study recommended that the hospital install washable rubber or antibacterial keyboards in the triage and registration areas. However, while rubber keyboards are easy to sterilize, they are difficult to type on and in medical situations that can lead to dangerous mistakes."

Unotron's patented SpillSeal® protection has the only airtight design where all surfaces of the keyboard are on the outside and can be completely sterilized. While other models must be dried for 24 hours before use, Unotron's keyboards can be quickly washed, shaken, and used immediately -- and they come with a waterproof USB.

Unotron's airtight design makes it a safer alternative in emergency departments, and its GermStopper™ technology performs double duty by protecting from spills and helping prevent germs with antibacterial protection built right in.

"Germs are everywhere and easily spread through human contact, so finding ways to sterilize heavy-use areas of a hospital ultimately protects patients," Carabello adds. "And Unotron's products are highly affordable."
