New predictive test to identify aggressive prostate cancer

S. Mark Redwood, M.D., chief of the Department of Urology at Sinai Hospital, is using a state-of-the-art predictive prostate cancer test called Prostate Px+ to better understand the aggressiveness of each individual patient's cancer and how best to treat it.

Prostate Px+ testing examines the molecular elements of each patient's prostate biopsy to uncover aspects of the tumor that can give insight into its specific behavior pattern. This will be extremely helpful to African American men who tend to have a higher incidence of prostate cancer than Caucasian men. Data show that when comparing certain cancer markers African American men were at higher risk for more aggressive cancers. Prostate Px+ can discover prostate cancer that is not found using current test guidelines.

"A more personalized risk assessment can mean better care, better outcomes and lower cost," said Redwood. "I utilize this test to provide a more accurate risk assessment score for each patient."
